Hot off the presses, here's a new map from the Maine Forest Service that shows hemlock woolly adelgid detections in Maine.
Click here to see the hemlock woolly adelgid map

It shows all Maine towns where hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) was detected prior to May 2010, and between May and August 201o (yes, just last month!). It also shows towns were HWA was looked for an not found by scientists and interns as of September 2010. I told you this was hot.

Maine Forest Service HWA surveys are ongoing. Help them out by looking at the hemlocks in your neighborhood and adding your observations to the Vital Signs database.

Big thanks to Allison Kanoti - MFS Forest Entomologist & Vital Signs Species Expert - and her team in Augusta for sharing this map with us!
