June in view

The June Teacher Institute was a great success with an incredible group of teachers and educators. For a taste, here are some shots of our biodiversity investigation at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth.

A mix of theory, pedagogy, species ecology, skills practice, and team building preceded the investigation. Observation upload, peer review, data analysis, story-telling, and action planning followed. See what InvasiveBusters found, and what TheThreeAmigos didn't find in the Park!

...all hands and minds were engaged as teams of teachers worked together to see if a certain species was in their quadrat (or not).

...teachers made initial assessments of their study areas.

...two curious middle school students checked out what the teachers were up to. They found it both odd and exciting to see teachers learning during the summer.

...teachers circled up to debrief their investigation.

...Alexa ran the investigation show (check out that tidy equipment at her feet).

...Later teachers visited the beach to learn how to set up a transect survey.

Stay tuned for a look at our July and August Teacher Institutes!
