CODAP Challenge cards

These cards will help students teach themselves how to use the Common Online Data Analysis Platform (CODAP) to analyze large datasets. Here are suggested steps for using the cards:

  1. Cut out each row of the Round 1 Challenge Cards. Do NOT cut down the center line between the two columns.
  2. Fold each row in half so that the challenge is on one side and the hint is on the other.
  3. Place the “Haven’t tried it/I’m stuck/”I did it” paper in the middle of your team where everyone can reach it.
  4. Set all of the Round 1 Challenge cards in the “Haven’t tried it” box.
  5. Open to the dataset.
  6. Pick a card from the “Haven’t tried it” pile and read the challenge.
  7. Work on the challenge.
  8. Once you complete it put the card in the “I did it” pile.
  9. If you get stuck on a challenge, put it in the “I’m stuck” pile.
  10. Continue until the “Haven’t tried it” pile is empty.
  11. Share what you learned with your team. Take turns showing each other how you completed each challenge.
  12. When you are finished, move on to the Round 2 and 3 challenge cards.
  13. If you discover a tool that isn’t in the cards, make a new challenge card.
