Imagine you and your students doing and sharing creative projects. What’s your project? What incredible thing happens to your students’ projects once they’re shared on Vital Signs?
My first thought is to have students create a Public Service Announcement that can inform the community about an invasive species. One of our 8th grade team goals is to provide real world learning activities. Selecting a species that threatens our community would probably be best, but I might also allow a wider scope. The recent CBS Sunday morning piece on Asian carp in the Illinois River was amazing and scary.
Once shared on Vital Signs, perhaps the PSAs might be used by local towns at meetings. It would be awesome to have projects make it to local TV stations.
I would like to have small groups of students learn about either an invasive or native species and produce short educational, INTERESTING (to them)videos about the species. Through this process, I see them learning about: the biodiversity of our area, the process of making a movie (they are all over the place with their skilz) and gaining a sense of ownership/stewardship of this amazing place we live in.
Audience-wise: community, ANP, fellow students.... the world!
