Golden Line from Chapter 2
The golden line I would like to comment on is from Strand 4. "Proficiency in science entails skillful participation in a scientific community in the classroom and mastery of productive ways of representing ideas, using scientific tools, and interacting with peers about science." This is what I hope for in my classroom. I am very concerned that this doesn't happen. I teach grade 7 Math/Science in a brand new high school environment. Our district closed both middle schools and sent all children to the high school. Our science classroom is virtually equipped with nothing, no sink, no tools, only books. We were instructed that there would be no disecting or making messes. We have done many things on the laptops but it is not the same as getting out there experimenting, collecting data and interacting. I am looking forward to seeing how this training will fit with our curriculum and facility.

Chapter 2
The golden line was right at the beginning of the reading
" Instead of drawing a distinction between content and process, we’ll define and describe four learning “strands” that encompass the knowledge and reasoning skills that students eventually must acquire to be considered proficient in science."
Different version of how I was taught to teach science. The emphasis has been on content throughout all of the early versions of a state, and even a national curriculum. It's starting to change with the new PEI's but they are still not always blending the knowledge, reasoning skills, and process skills the kids need.
