Golden Lines from Chap 2, July 2010
"When students understand the nature and development of scientific knowledge, they know that science entails searching for core explanantions and the connections between them.... They also recognize the value of explanations in generating new and productive questions for research... coninuted investigations inevitably led to more questions." Students have some basis of scientific knowledge from experiences, observations or learned and that by continuing to question the how's and why's will foster further investigations, which leads to further understanding, dialog, reasonings, analysis, etc and the cycle continues. Students also need to see that each 'science unit' is related to something they have already learned or experienced. Making connections is key to better understanding.
