July 2010 Golden Line-Chapter 2

The line I found golden for me is that the four strands "are intertwined, much like the strands of a rope." This made is very clear to me as to why I need to provide opportunities in my classroom to meet the needs of the four strands to "strengthen the rope." When I do not the "rope weakens" along with my students understanding of science and its importance.

I do struggle with the time factor though allowing students to "shift their thinking" on their own. I look forward to talking about how to better balance the four strands with the restriction of time.

Comments

I too liked the analogy of intertwined rope. Shows that the stands are related and do overlap. I find time is always a factor, my classes are 42 min long, so often things have to carry-over.
