Tips for using the map
WHEN & HOW TO USE THE MAP
It’s best to use the map when you want to see what species have been seen in a certain area of Maine. To do this:
-
1. Center the map> on you place of interest by clicking & dragging or using the arrow controls in the upper left corner
2. Zoom in by double-clicking on your place of interest or using the +/- zoom control in the upper left corner
MAP MARKERS
-
Each species has a number code so you can tell them apart on the map.
“001" = water chestnut
“700" = white pine
Orange map markers indicate that a species was looked for and found in that location.
Gray markers indicate that a species was looked for and not found in that location.
Click on a map marker to view a snapshot of each species observation. You’ll see the species name, who looked for it, the date the observation was made, the first piece of written and photo evidence, and the number of comments. Click on the link to see the full observation detail.
Observations made in the same location result in stacked map markers. Use the table to the left of the map to turn a species off to view the hidden markers. The nubs on each marker are a hint that there are stacked markers.
Note: If you’re looking for a certain species on the map, it’s best to use the Table (located to the left of the map) to control which species markers you see displayed on the map. You can also use the Advanced Search to do a keyword search for a certain species, limit date ranges, etc.
