Field Notes
We were studying the site right beside the trail in the woods. I see, hear, and smell leaves, cars, and fresh air.
Supporting Evidence
Photo of my evidence.
The leaf that we found had alternate veins, and the leaf we we're looking for has opposite veins.
Photo of my evidence.
In fall, if it were the acer rubrum the leaves would have been more red. But this tree is more yellow.
Photo of my evidence.
We didn't find acer rubrum because the leaf we found has 3 sides, when acer rubrum has 8 sides.

You guys did a good job with the pictures and data. Great Job!

pretty sexy work (:

I definitely agree with your claim that this is NOT red maple. Be careful that you don't confuse the vein arrangement and the leaf arrangement. Check out how the leaves are arranged along the stem next time.

Tesla5A makes a great point about your photos. Including scale and seasonal change were smart scientific moves!

I think you found an oak - I'm not sure if it's a red or black or a hybrid, and would need to see the bark up close to figure it out.

Can't wait to see your next observation!

Nice job, very down to the point, with convincing pictures.

nice pictures, ( :
