Field Notes
My team saw trees and a fast moving stream, we heard the rushing water, we smelled Fir trees around the stream. I was picking up rocks trying to find Rock Snot.

Didymosphenia geminata was NOT FOUND
I agree, the wet-wool test is a sound trait to look for when didymo hunting. Maine is lucky; we have no known infestation of this pest alga. That's why it's valuable that you've looked for it. Every clean bill of health for streams without didymos is good news. But even if you find Maine's first infestation, it'll be valuable information to share with scientists and sportsmen so that we can keep it from spreading elsewhere. So thanks for looking, and I hope you'll keep looking as well.
