Field Notes
We visited the end of Attean Road where we thought a stand of Japanese Knotweed existed. It was a cool, breezy day.
Supporting evidence
The leaves are almost round, and heart-shaped. The leaf in the photo is 15 cm long.
The flowers are white and finger-like and they grow in bunches.
The stems grow in a zig-zag pattern and the leaves grow from swollen joints.
That sure looks like knotweed to me! Great photographs - they are nice and crisp, you included a scale, they show important features. Thanks for reporting from western Maine!

Wondering if you've been seeing a lot of bees around this stand of knotweed lately...?

Nice work Andy and family! I'm going to try to get out tomorrow to find some knotweed in my neck of the woods. :)
