For years we've been on the lookout for Maine's 10 most unwanted aquatic nuisance species, and alas, it appears we have a sighting of the most aggressive of them all - hydrilla. Thanks to the efforts of volunteer lake monitors, this particular area of infestation was detected early, and is believed to be contained within a small lagoon area. This area has been cordoned off by DEP personnel to prevent spread, while a decision is being made on a longer term course of action. Sampling of a nearby similar lagoon provides initial confirmation that this sighting may be the only area of infestation, but more sampling of the entire lake will be needed, now and again in the next year(s). See second observation for comparison habitat characteristics and photos for the lagoon that appears hydrilla-free, located less than 300 yards away from this site.

They are so many of this species in the wetland you studied. I enjoyed looking at your few pictures, but I wished there were more. Some advise would be to maybe draw a sketch to help us understand your species thoroughly.
