We went outside on 10/29/2009 at 11:56 am we noticed that we had a type of moss coming off of 1/14 of our trees. The moss hangs off of the tree. We also noticed that we have a type of nut growing off of a stem. there was only one nut on each stem. For our quadrat we used a 5x5 meter space.

Not finding.
Nice job with your investigation, you have included some good written and photographic evidence to establish that the plant that you were investigating was not the species that you were looking for. The photograph of the plant stem is very good and relates well to your written evidence.
Not finding what we are looking for can be difficult, why would we look at a Where's Waldo book if we did not intend to find him? However, in this case, not finding an invasive species is very good news for Maine, especially when someone has done a careful and thorough investigation.
I am curious about the moss that you mention in your quadrat. Were there any defining characteristics about the species that might help you find out what it was (color, shape, size, growth pattern)?
Thank you very much! About
Thank you very much!
About the Moss, It was a olive green color and it was in random spots on the tree. It was a very strange find. The Moss was round is and about 4 - 6 inches around.
Thank you again for your interest,
