Field Notes Sketch

Data was collected in coastal park with mowed lawns and parking lots. The site was approximately 500 feet from the ocean. The day was hot and sunny, so our team worked in the shade. We had a near-by picnic table in a park.

Polygonum perfoliatum

I agree that you did not find Polygonum perfoliatum. Not all plants are so distinctive that you will "know them when you see them" ... but P. perfoliatum is very distinctive. I've looked at a lot of plants, but I have never seen a plant with such triangular leaves. So ... I think that with the observations skills you are developing, when you make another trip to look for this plant, you WILL know it when you see it!
