It was a quiet day on the saltmarsh - just me and one snowy egret. I was in a hurry and nearly missed seeing the small springtime pickleweed sprouts in the pannes!
Supporting evidence
I think that this is pickleweed because it has bright green waxy, scaly leaves that hug the stem.
Many of the new shoots I saw are just barely starting to branch. I'd expect to see more branching in a few weeks as the stems grow and mature.
