Plant Investigation Scotch Lovage
Field Notes
On October 18th, my class and I went outdoors. We went to the swamp area on our school campus where we investigated different plants. Our mission was to each find a different plant and identify what type of plant it is. We took photos and sketched what our plants looked like. My plant is a light brownish color with white tiny flowers. It covers about 3/4 of my quadrate. Since it is kind of late in the season, my plant is dead. When I went outside, I measured my plant and it was a little over one meter tall. It was also surrounded by at least 2 feet of water! When I stepped near the plant, I got a bunch of water in my boots and all up my legs. The water was cold too.
My plant looks like it has a bunch of little flowers growing on it. The plant that i’m investigating is all around our school swamp area. My plant may be an invasive species.
When we went outside, the temperature was 18 degrees C. It was a kind of a cloudy day but the sun peeked out a few times. The Latitude of my plant is My group and I took a bunch of pictures and sketched some too. Plus, it was kind of funny when we kept on getting wet in the swamp.
I looked up plants on the following website. http//:www.ct-botanical-society.org/galleries/rareindex.html. I found a few plants that were almost exactly like mine. Heart Leaved Aexanders, Scotch Lovage, and Yellow Pimpernel. All of these plants had something in common with the plant that i’m trying to identify. The plant that has the most in common with my plant is the Scotch Lovage though. This plant lives in marshes. It has little white flowers that are white just like mine. These flowers are in clusters and are 2-4 inches long. The flowering time is the same as mine too. It’s July through August. The plant is native also.
