Field Notes
I am happy because... we get to have class outside today!
Questions and problems I ran into... the camera wouldn't always focus - pictures wouldn't come out without a lot of work.
I see, hear, and smell... the cars that are on the road around where we are. They are loud, and they send out fumes that smell.
I am surprised by what I found or didn't find because... we found white fuzz every so often so we thought maybe we found our invasive species. But they were just little worm.

Texture is very important in
Texture is very important in discerning between hemlock woolly adelgid and its imposters. Fresh wax on HWA looks wispy, like threads of a cotton ball. This time of year the insects have resumed feeding (after a summer dormancy or aestivation)and are just beginning to be fringed with fresh wax strands.
I'm glad you are looking for
I'm glad you are looking for the adelgid, and I'm glad you did not find it. Those look like very excellent hemlocks. Are you going to keep checking them?
