Field Notes
It rained in the afternoon, but had cleared up. There was this beautiful rainbow. I usually post observations from the beach here, but I thought it was interesting that the lonicera already had berries on it. The species card says to look for red berries in late summer. This summer everything seems to be fruiting early! I haven't even gotten any strawberries and the season's basically over, and I hear blueberries are already ripe.

Supporting Evidence
Photo of my evidence.
These leaves are arranged opposite on the stem. They are oval, simple, and have a smooth margin. These are all characteristics of honeysuckle.

I didn't have a ruler on me, but here is a close up of a leaf with my hand for some sense of scale. Again, you can see the leaf is simple, oval, and has a smooth margin. The red berries are also distinctive of honeysuckle.

This image shows the hollow stem. It is the hollow stem that helps to distinguish the invasive honeysuckle from the native. So I'm pretty sure that I found the invasive lonicera.

Sniffly,

Great observation! Your photos are clear (especially the second evidence photo). The site is really beautiful - who wouldn't want to be at a beach? Looking at the plant more closely, I think that I might have some of that in my back yard. Maybe I'll need to document it on VS soon!! :)

Thanks for a clear observation -- that might help me make my own ID!

Keep up the great work,
Mainer95

Thank you! I'm glad to help, and interested to see if my evidence convinces the species expert.

And I'm glad my phone took photos that you thought were clear enough. :)
